“Rusal Armenal” CJSC plans to locate a facility for industrial wastes in its territory. The company has submitted the EIA report on locating industrial waste facility to Environmental Expertise SNCO of Nature Protection Ministry. The date of the public hearings isn’t still available. Under the report, “Rusal Armenal” CJSC is located in the northern part of Yerevan, in Arabkir administrative area. It’s situated on the left bank of the Hrazdan River in a distance of at least 300 meters from the river. The company specializes in producing aluminum foil. The facility will store wastes having 1 to 5 hazard category: first-category hazard wastes include used mercury lamps and thermometers. The territory was wastes is planned for ten years. The company plans to use the open territory of 3300 sq. meters located in the northern part of its territory. “Yerevan and adjacent areas are located in the seismic zone,” the report says, but it doesn’t assess seismic risk or measures to be taken in case of the quake.
