EcoLur Established Tool To Record Violations of Green Rights

EcoLur

EcoLur has developed a register of the violation of “green rights”, which will serve as a tool for the residents of different communities to register the violations of their “green” rights. On 23-24 October, a discussion entitled “Green Rights, Violation and Defense” was held at EcoLur Press Club, where the register of rights violations was presented. The participants of the discussions were as follows: members of NESENHUTI Independent Social Ecological Movement - Martin Hytha, Kristina Studena and Eva Jaskova, Lena Manvelyan – President of “Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment” NGO and NGO expert Qnarik Grigoryan, Karen Chilingaryan – President of “Consumer Consultation Center” NGO, Gayane Poghosyan - Director of SME Foundation, lawyer Nazeli Vardanyan - Director of “Forests of Armenia” NGO, Amalya Hambardzumyan - President of “Khazer” Ecological and Cultural NGO, Aram Grigoryan – CEO of “Union of Public Defenders”, Garni community activist Arusyak Ayvazyan and EcoLur’s team. “The aim of this register is to show the violation of resident’s certain rights in the frames of this or that project and who is responsible for such type of violations. People will have a tool, which can clearly show them who to apply to and which laws to refer to. This tool will also serve for the dialogue with the government,” “EcoLur” Informational NGO President Inga Zarafyan said. The register involved the violations on the rights to health and living in healthy environment, property, accessibility of natural resources and their sustainable use, information, justice accessibility, accessibility in participation in decision-making process, damages, social protection and running protest demonstrations. During the meeting several projects were discussed such as Shekaghbyur gold-polymetallic mine field, Gladzor polymetallic mine, Amulsar gold mine, Qaghtsrashen gravity irrigation projects, the demands of project affected communities and violations of their rights. There was a proposal to establish a special website, where the citizens of Armenia will be able to beat alarm signals on the violation of their green rights on their own. To be continued...
