Climate Risk Assessment in Talin Community

Talin community of Aragatsotn marz is highly vulnerable to climate change. The community has 82 thousand 167.1 hectares of agricultural land, out of which 790.58 hectares have been used for energy and soil management. The main part of these lands, 630 hectares, was allocated for the construction of solar plants. Out of that, 547.31 hectares are for the largest solar photovoltaic plant "Aig-1" with a capacity of 200MW in Armenia. This major green energy project and other solar energy projects have not been assessed for climate change.

160,581 hectares of land are used for soil management. 25 non-metallic, mainly tuff mines are operated on these lands. Long-term mining without implementing soil conservation measures contributes to continuous soil degradation, which, in its turn, causes desertification, the release of carbon stored in soils.

Considering the harsh climatic conditions, Talin Community needs forested areas, and the programs and activities implemented in the community require clear evaluations from the viewpoint of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable management of land resources is also important from the viewpoint of combating greenhouse gas emissions and desertification. The community needs climate change mitigation and adaptation measures.
