Water in the Lake Arpi region of Shirak is 7 times lower than it was last year. Out of 35.4 million cubic meters of water, 5 million cubic meters of water was left in the lake. Levon Galstyan, a member of the Armenian Environmental Front, has asked the Water Committee to explain why such a situation has arisen and why such a huge difference in regard to last year is explained. In response, the Water Committee said:

"We inform that there is a need for urgent repair work in the valve system of the the drain, to ensure that appropriate procedures have been obtained to bring the lake level to the appropriate level. Design work is currently underway.” It should be noted that the Lake Arpi National Park was created to preserve the ecosystem of Lake Arpi, and as a result of this process the conservation regime of the National Park was violated.
