SOS Sevan Initiative Collecting Proposals to Save Lake Sevan

On 4 July, the members of SOS Sevan Initiative discussed the reasons for the blooming in Lake Sevan at EcoLur Press Club and actions needed to save the lake.

The following people made speeches about the ecological problems of Lake Sevan and proposed their ways of solution: Lusine Ghambaryan – Senior Researcher at Institute of Hydroecology and Ichthyology of NAS RA, Karine Danielyan - President of “Association for Sustainable Human Development” NGO,  Silva Adamyan – President of “Center for Bird Lovers” NGO, Member of Board of “ICOMOS/Armenia” NGO, Gagik Sukhudyan - author of Sevan National Park project, Liana Asoyan – President of “Blejan” NGO, Levon Gasparyan – member of Armenian Environmental Front Civic Initiative, Energy Expert Edward Arzumanyan, Aram Gabrielyan – representatives of “Khazer” Ecological and Cultural NGO, Qnarik Grigoryan – representatives of “Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment”, Vardan Mamikonyan – Director of “Foundation for Recovery of Sevan Trout Reserves and Development of Fish Breeding”, Hayk Grigoryan – representative of “Green Armenia” NGO, Engineer-inventor Gagik Alaverdyan, President of “EcoLur” Informational NGO Inga Zarafyan, and EcoLur’s experts Roza Julhakyan and Victoria Burnazyan.

It was mentioned that the increase in the water level is a priority to solve the lake, as well as preparation of littoral areas for the increase in the lake, installation of biological and chemical cleaning stations on the rivers flowing into Lake Sevan, the operation of Vorotan-Arpa tunnel in order to exclude any additional water intake from Lake Sevan.

EcoLur is collection all the proposals made at the meeting as well as on its FB page and group aimed at saving Lake Sevan, which shall be submitted to the Armenian Government.
