Public Hearings in Jermuk: Don’t Enter Water Not To Get Soaked

Contradictions in the project and contradictions in the comments – nothing new in SHPP projects. On 14 November the public hearings on “Arpa-3” project submitted by “Jinj Arpa” LLC were held in Jermuk Municipality.

Under Company’s Executive Director Spartak Avagyan, an agreement had been signed with “ArmForest” SNCO, “Damages to be awarded for each felled bush or tree.” At the same time, Avagyan outlined that the pipeline with a length of 2.8 km, won’t be laid through the forest and specially protected areas. “Believe my grey hair,” he said. In this case a question arises: why an agreement had been concluded with ArmForest, which is in charge of the forest territories only.

In reply to EcoLur’s question, why the project doesn’t have new studies on biodiversity, S. Avagyan angrily said, “So, what should be do? To estimate how the noise will impact each bird?” Yes, on each bird, as the territory around Jermuk is a key ornithological area, where red-listed birds inhabit. Under the studies of WWF-Armenia, you can find red-listed bezoar goats in this area, which may come down to Arpa River to drink water. That is, the project doesn’t contain own studies, moreover, the authors of the project are not even aware of the studies, which findings were included in the new Red Book of Armenia.
