On 8 June member of Republican Party Vardan Hovhannisyan was re-elected as Mayor of Jermuk resort town, he had 2,286 votes for his candidature. The other candidate, Koryun Stepanyan, had 1059 votes.

Before the elections, the journalist of Maxinfo.am website narek Mirozyan conducted surveys among Jermuk residents, where one of the questions was whether they supported or oppose Amulsar gold mining project. The mine is located in a distance of 12 km from Jermuk, which is going to be developed by Lydian International Company represented by its subsidiary – “Geoteam” company. “Amulsar is a closed topic for us, we are definitely against this project, as no one from the developing company came here and asked for our opinion, whether we support it or oppose to it,” Jermuk residents said. In his interview with the “Armenpress” re-elected Jermuk Mayor said, “I used to oppose mine development, but currently it doesn’t disturb the development of our town.”
