Yerevan Municipality rejected the plan to build a smelter in Avan administrative district in Yerevan. On December 30, 2021, the letter addressed to Director of "Akunk-Firma" LLC, by Head of Nature Protection Department of Yerevan Municipality Staff, Grigor Nazaryan, particularly mentions,
“Nature Protection Department of Yerevan Municipality Staff ensured the participation of the community representative in the first public discussion on 22.12.2021 on the planned construction of a smelter at Acharyan 2nd deadlock in Avan administrative district.
"Taking into account the complaints of the residents of Yerevan Municipality and Avan administrative district, the general dissatisfaction expressed by the participants during the public hearing and the negative opinions, prior consent to the planned activities is not issued."
The plan to establish a smelter in Avan administrative district belongs to "COPPER" LLC.
Reminder: in October 2021, “Environmental Impact Expertise Center" SNCO of RA Environment Ministry issued a negative conclusion to the application for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the smelter operations.
