As of 3 September, 178.303 million cum water has been let out of Lake Sevan in the course of 2018, as Hydromet Service of RA MES informs.
It should be mentioned that it is planned to let out 210 million cum water out of Lake Sevan instead of the statutory 170 million cum. The National Assembly has adopted the bill on the additional water intake out of Lake Sevan on 29 August despite public protests and the circumstance that Lake Sevan underwent unprecedented blooming this year, which is an indicator of waterlogging processes in the lake.
Thus, over the recent decade the additional water intake out of Lake Sevan has been carried out for the 5th time – 2008, 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2018. The substantiation is the deficit of water for the irrigation of land areas in Ararat Valley. Only in 2017 Water Committee mentioned that additional water intake should be carried out to produce extra energy by Sevan-Hrazdan cascade.
