Vayq Gold Company Illegally Mined from Azatek Mine Gold, Silver and Copper of 250 Million AMD: Criminal Case Initiated

Gold, silver, and copper of 250 million AMD have been illegally mined by Vayq Gold Company from Azatek mine located in Vayots Dzor Region. In this case, a criminal case has been initiated in RA Chief Prosecutor's Office. The information on the illegal mining has been submitted by Chief Prosecutor's Office to RA Environmental and Mining Inspection Body.

In his interview with EcoLyr, Assistant to Environmental and Mining Inspection Body Head Vruyr Pepanyan said that the Inspection Body has stopped the operation of the mining and applied to RA Ministry for Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources with a demand to deprive 'Vayq Gold' LLC of its soil management permit.

Based on the relevant assignments of Environmental and Mining Inspection Body Head, an inspection has been carried out in this company and it has been recorded that in December 2017 the company mined around 1,330 tons of ore with the violation of the project having undergone expert assessment, rules of soil use and conservation where the value of the metals makes up around 218 million AMD – 11.31 kg of gold, around 19 million – 84.5 kg of silver and around 15 million AMD – 5.25 tons of copper. The mined ore hasn't been reflected in the company reports submitted to a competent body causing essential damage to the soil and the natural resources it incorporates.
