Poverty, Mining and Transport Causing Air Pollution in Shirak

EcoLur

The main reason for the air pollution in Shirak Region is the poor socio-economic situation in the region, mining, plants and transportation. “The use of different substances containing different chemicals for heating in winter season extremely adversely affects the air quality. During these months the concentration of carbon dioxide, sulfur and nitrogen dioxides increases in the air often exceeding the MPC (Maximum Permissible Concentration) by 2-3 times. During other months the air pollution is conditioned with mechanical dust, as well as traffic emissions, which exceed the MPC almost twice,” the Socio-economic development plan of Shirak Region for 2014-2017 says.
