EcoLur
In reply to EcoLur’s material republished by other mass media, “Rusal Armenal” Company has disseminated a statement as a refutation. In compliance with EcoLur’s policy, we are publishing the opinions of stakeholders, even when their viewpoint doesn’t comply with ours. Meanwhile we would like to remind that the information on risks denied by Armenal is displayed in the project submitted for the environmental expertise to Nature Protection Ministry (seehttp://www.ecolur.org/hy/news/officials/mercury-lamp-and-thermometer-wastes-planned-to-be-kept-in-territory-next-to-hrazdan-river/5876/.) We would also like to remind that the public is entitled to expressing its opinion on the project in the stage of undergoing expertise, while the expertise has to take this opinion into consideration. This project refers to the disposal of hazardous wastes, which you can find on the website of Nature Protection Ministry.
Armenal’s statement says: Armenal Plant Doesn’t Jeopardize Ecology Yerevan, 28 February 2014 – In regard with the distorted information that some mass media have disseminated on establishing an area for storing the production wastes of Armenal plant we consider it necessary to state the following: 1. The area is established in line with all the requirements of the environmental legislation of the Republic of Armenia and its project developed by specialized “ATMS Solutions” company is agreed with the competent governmental bodies. 2. The established area will be located in the territory of the plant itself and not in the gorge of the Hrazdan River, as the mass media distort the facts. 3. This area will have a surface of 3300 sq. meters, i.e. a small sport field and not “a graveyard of wastes”. 4. The wastes to be stored in this area, which don’t contain hazardous substances, will be located there temporarily till the export to the ad hoc republican landfill. Armenal factory insists on publishing this statement as refutation in line with RA Law “On Mass Media Information”.
