The government intends to approve preventative and protective measures in case of any breakdown at Armenian nuclear power plant. The governmental decision “On Approving Norms of Storing and List of Values Subject to Storing in State Treasury in Case of Any Breakdown at Armenian Nuclear Power Plant and Radiation Hazards in List of Preventative and Urgent Protective Measures Designed for Residents Inhabiting in ANPP, as Well as for Rescuers Taking Part in Elimination of Breakdown Consequences” will be adopted at the governmental meeting to be held on 2 May.
It should be noted that nuclear energy expert Emil Sahakyan insists that the population density in a range of 1 km2 living nearby ANPP is rather high. “The density makes up about 290-339 people for one km2 and in this viewpoint ANPP operation bears high risks. If the government were worried, it wouldn’t allow the ANPP to operate under these conditions,” the expert says.
