Casting doubts on the legal grounds of Hrazdan ion mining process ‘Healthy Hrazdan’ Civic Initiative is demanding from Energy and Natural Resources Ministry to provide all the documents relevant to Hrazdan ion mining. The statement disseminated by the initiative particularly says, “The probable development of the iron mine in the center of Hrazdan mine has caused the concerns of the population and the environmentalists. Besides, the most serious environmental disasters generated from mining, that directly refer to” a. to the contamination of spring water from Maqravan 1,2, and 3 supplying water to around 250,000 people and their complete disappearance, b. pollution of the largest irrigation system in Armenia (Sevan-Hrazdan aqueduct and Tsovinar water regulating reservoir), c. pollution of air basin and underground water formation system with heavy and toxic metals due to iron ore crushing, iron extraction and smelting plant facility operation, d. the presence of tailing dumps along the highways running to Sevan and other resorts, as well as immediate neighborhood of Tsaghkadzor and Hanqavan Gorge resort zones, The legal grounds of the mine development are more problematic, which refer to issuing special mining license to “Nagin” LLC in 2007 and changing of license holder’s name.”
