The representatives of the civil society in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan discussed the problems of developing energy sector and methods of reaction in the course of 'South Caucasus Chalk Circle' conference organized by Georgian 'Green Alternative' NGO with the support of 'Brot fur die Welt' (Germany). The chairperson of 'Green Alternative' Manana Kochladze presented the tendencies of energy development in the South Caucasus from the viewpoint of the protection of human rights. The main topics of the conference are as follows: human rights and environment: overview of tools for assessment and grievance mechanisms, main ecological problem in mining industry in Azerbaijan, protection of 'green' rights in Armenia, campaign on the protection of the rights of the local population in the course of capacity-building project implementaton, corporate accountability, governing principles of the OECD and grievance mechanisms, compliance with the political rights: public participation, right to freedom of expression and gender rights, violation of human rights, social and gender rights in energetic projects, business exercising pressure on activists and women on the example of Argitchi SHPP.
The Armenian delegation comprises Anahit Gevorgyan, Chairperson of 'Public Council of Martuni Women' NGO, Liana Asoyan, Chairperson of 'Blejan' Environmental NGO, Nazeli Vardanyan – Director of 'Forests of Armenia' NGO, Anjela Stepanyan - Director of Armavir Press Club, a TV reporter, and Manya Meliqjanyan – President of 'Lore EcoClub' NGO.
