'Healthy Hrazdan' civic initiate member Movses Manukyan has addressed an open letter to RA Nature Protection Minister Erik Grigoryan in regard to Hrazdan forests, which says:

'Over recent 20 years, hundreds of hectares of forests in the balance of Hrazdan forestry enterprise located in Tsaghkadzor, Hanqavan (across the whole length of the Marmarik River) and Arzakan-Aghveran section have been alienated to individual citizens having received the status of land areas of other significance without any serious substantiations and public hearings.

Such situation has distorted the integrity of the forests having an adverse impact on the preservation, care, and development of forests. In many cases, the natural forests of Armenia, which has few forests, have already been converted into urban development platforms.

By eliminating forests we cause serious damage not only to the nature of Armenia but also we hinder the development of the sustained tourism system in the region.

Taking into account the aforementioned, we are proposing to develop an efficient mechanism to investigate the problems and to return illegally alienated forests to the state system of forest economy.

With the expectation of protecting forests, it's extremely important to include all the mentioned forests in the area of Arzakan-Meghradzor-Mrgahovit state reserve, the borders of which are currently being specified.'
