On November 17, the officials in Jermuk town, Vayots Dzor Region, held a discussion on the Amulsar Gold Mine Project, which was closed for coverage. The information about the meeting spread quickly, and people on Facebook social networking site starting posting accusations noting that such closed meetings are aimed at persuading locals to open roads leading to the Amulsar mine.
In response to the allegations, MPs Gayane Abrahamyan, Mary Galstyan and Maria Karapetyan, who were present at the meeting, posted a similar clarification on their Facebook pages, which says: “The meeting was attended by Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan, Head of Office of Coordination of Inspection Works Artur Asoyan, Head of Environment and Mining Inspection Body Vigen Avetisyan, Deputy Head of Investigation Committee, Head of Amulsar Investigation Team Arsen Ayvazyan, Michael Zolyan, Tigran Ulikhanyan, Maria Karapetyan.
The purpose of the meeting was to present to the representatives of the community attending the meeting the steps taken and implemented by the Government to resolve the situation around Amulsar for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia and its citizens.
The purpose of the meeting was also to listen to citizens' questions and possible concerns. Michael Zolyan said: “About our today's visit to Jermuk. Understandably, many citizens have no confidence in us. After all, people for decades have seen nothing good from MPs or the executive. Moreover, we must recognize that under Amulsar there is already a problem with the new government to ensure effective dialogue between the authorities and the public.”
