The UN Climate Change Conference opened on 1 December in Lima, Peru gathered the delegations of 195 countries worldwide. NGO representatives, delegations and religious groups blocked the road traffic and refused from a traditional dinner and preferred “carbon meal”. All this means the start of the climatic negotiations in Lima, as Armenian – based “Khazer” NGO informs, which takes part in this international conference.
The conference was accompanied with a hunger strike participated by 50 people. The protest demonstration was held as a sign of solidarity with the people having suffered from climate changes. Fasting for the climate Movement started at the UN climate negotiations in Warsaw in November 2013. Yeb Saño, the Philippines Commission delegate who had just witnessed his country being devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.
“Act for the climate! Go solar!” said the message projected from the Temple of the Sun in Machu Picchu onto the neighboring mountain of Huayna Picchu on the occasion of the United Nations’ 20th Conference on Climate Change (COP20), which began on Monday in Lima.
Activists from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Austria and Germany reached the famous archaeological site in foggy weather, but managed to project their message onto the Andean peak in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French and Hindi.
The Fossil of the Day award was granted to Australia, Belgium, Ireland and Austria for being the only developed countries, which haven’t made any contribution to the Green Climate Fund so far.
