Safe environmental corridors have been created for animals in three regions of Armenia - Ararat, Syunik and Vayots Dzor as a result of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) “Regional Assistance for establishing Environmental Corridors” project.

According to a press release disseminated by WWF Armenia, the five-year project aims to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use without reducing the income of the local rural population.

For the implementation of sustainable land use experience, 5 communities of Ararat, Syunik and Vayots Dzor Regions have signed long-term environmental agreements of 7-10 years for the implementation of environmental measures in 10 rural areas. The program created safe corridors for the movement of animals resulting in a significant increase in the number of leopards, bezoar goats, and brown bears.
