Infocom.am has published a journalistic investigation where it reveals the affinity between Yura Ivanyan, Head of the Investigation Committee on Criminal Investigation of Intentional Hiding of Environmental Pollution by Officials, and the former RA Minister of Nature Protection Aramayis Grigoryan, who signed the EIA document of the Amulsar Project. They are cousins.
Yuri Ivanyan is the Head of the Investigation Group on Criminal Investigation of Intentional Hiding of Environmental Pollution Facts by Officials on the Amulsar Mine established in Investigative Committee on July 20, 2018.
Aramayis Grigoryan is the RA Minister of Nature Protection, who in 2016 signed a positive opinion on the environmental expert assessment given to the EIA of the Amulsar project.
Michael Nahapetyan, a member of the executive body of the Citizens' Decision party, described the revelation as a U-turn in the Amulsar case, noting that it completely destroyed the Amulsar case.
“According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, such kinship, the kinship of the third party, is an exclusionary factor in the proceedings. He did not have the right to take over the case,” Michael Nahapetyan said during a live event on Facebook.
For its part, the Investigative Committee has issued a clarification affirming Yura Ivanyan's and Aramayis Grigoryan's kinship, but refutes suspicions about Amulsar's case being investigated.
"Yura Ivanyan has a kinship with the former Minister of Nature Protection Aramayis Grigoryan, but we should note that the voiced opinions that this kinship should be called into question the objectivity of the Amulsar case are not reasonable.
The criminal case was examined in Yura Ivanyan's department not taking into account any kin ties, but this Department investigates large-scale, highly complex criminal cases and corruption-related cases in the General Prosecutor's Office,” the Investigations Committee clarified.
