Newborn Babies and Their Feeding Mothers Breathe in Dioxin Poison in Southwest Quarter of Yerevan

EcoLur

A new hazardous object has emerged in Yerevan - a garbage dump in the southwest quarter of B-1: the worried residents of this region gave signals to EcoLur of this. The garbage dump has been operating for more than one year, but already smokes every year. Incomplete burning of organic matters leads to the emission of pollutants, including dioxin. Dioxin is a poison, which spreads together with smoke into atmosphere and brings to malignant tumors and to inborn anomalies. By the way, a maternity hospital is located next to the garbage dump, and newborns and their feeding mothers breathe in dioxin.

EcoLur couldn’t find any information either in the website of Yerevan Municipality or the website of Nature Protection Ministry any information who permitted the place a garbage dump in the residential zone of the city and what kind of parameters it has. EcoLur joins the area residents and applies to Yerevan Municipality, Nature Protection Ministry and Health Ministry with the alarm signal, and asks to answer as follows:

1. What kind of permitting documents this very object has?

2. Whether the sanitary norms are complied with when placing such an object in the residential area taking into consideration nearby location of a maternity hospital and block of flats?

3. Who controls the operation of this object and who bears responsibility for the elimination of negative consequences resulting from the operation of this very object?
