On 22 March the World Water Day was celebrated at NAS RA: Geological Museum of NAS RA held ‘World Water Day in Crossroad of Cultures 2017’ event.
In his welcome speech RA President, Academician Radik Martirosyan said, “We shall carefully treat Lake Sevan and other water resources in Armenia. We shall be more attentive to the preservation, use and exploitation of water and our research organizations are carrying out a number of researches in this direction.”
“Historically Armenia has been a reservoir of freshwater and Lake Sevan is much valued for future and is one of survival guarantees in terms of its position and water quality. It should be mentioned that the consistent measures aimed at the increase in Lake Sevan gives their positive results,” Academician Ruben Jrbashyan said in his speech.
“Since 2000 the German Development Bank was involved in the water sector of Armenia – to promote the preservation of water quality together with the Armenian Government. If this program is a success, around 4000 residents in Gyumri and Vanadzor will have high-quality water,’ German Ambassador to Armenia Bernhard Matthias Kiesler promised.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Mr. Giovanni Ricciulli mentioned that water losses and contamination with chemicals are top water problems in Italy. In order to raise awareness about these problems the World water Day is marked in Italy every year.
Deputy to RA Nature Protection Minister Khachik Hakobyan presented in his speech the main principles of state policy for administering water resources by the state.
“Sevan” National Park Project Developer Gagik Sukhudyan referred to the historical, current and future problems of Lake Sevan.
The event continues in the Geological Museum of NAS RA, where Museum Director Gayane Grigoryan held a contest entitled “Water is life and let’s not pollute it”.
