The Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia has disseminated a statement on improper spending of a large amount of money, which resulted in the severe consequences caused by environmental hazards. The press release of the Prosecutor's Office says:

“The factual data on the abuse of official authority by the responsible officials of RA Water Committee have been revealed.  The study revealed that the state-loan funds provided by the Government of the Republic of France to the Government of the Republic of Armenia envisage improvement and cleaning works of Yerevan water supply system, in particular, restoration of "Aeratsia" wastewater treatment plant by improving the initial treatment of wastewater.

About 7.12 billion AMD was paid for the reconstruction works, which is equivalent to about $ 15 million. Meanwhile, it turned out that Yerevan's "Aeratsia" wastewater treatment plant has not been put into operation yet, whereas a particularly large amount, about 7.12 billion AMD, has been allocated for the improvement of the Yerevan water supply system. Because of non-targeted spending of state funds of the Republic of Armenia, possible ecological hazards haven’t been prevented thus causing severe consequences. A criminal case has been initiated.
