Under the data by Hrachya Avagyan, Dr. in Geological and Mineral Sciences, the tails of Qajaran mine had accumulated precious elements in the amount of 63.8 billion USD from 1951 to 2012.
“Only small part of ore undergoes processing, while rare and precious elements are sent to the tailing dump, i.e. natural resources turn into toxic,” the scientist said. Thus, the tails contain 30.459 tons of molybdenum, 259,000 tons of copper, 500 tons of selenium and 3262.3 kg of gold.
At the same time around 3-4% of natural elements should have been left with the use of contemporary technologies, but currently 20% remains. “All other mines developed by other companies – Agarak (GeoProMining Comapny), Shahumyan (Deno Gold Mining) and Armaniss (Neva-Rus) are in the same situation.”
Hrachya Avagyan said Qajaran mine has gold reserves in the amount of 59 tons. “Gold is connected with gold and transfers to the obtained copper concentrate. With low content of gold, less than 3.5 grams for ton it’s not assessed, if more, a certain part of it is assessed with the sale of concentrate,” Avagyan said.
