On 22 July the public hearings on the project of Geghanush tailing dump of emergency overflow were held in Kapan Municipality building (Syunik Region), as Kapan-based sources inform us. The project had been submitted by “Jinj” LLC. The hearings were headed by Kapan Mayor Ashot Karapetyan. The public were particularly interested to what extent the safety of the tailing pipe will be ensures, as three breakdowns happened in 2012 and the tails poured out into environment. As “Dandee Precious Metals Kapan” CJSC representative (the company developing Geghanush tailing dump and Kapan Ore Dressing Combine) assured, the new project will minimize risks of breakdowns at the tailing pipe. The earth works are also brought to minimum. “Emergency pools and concrete traps of waste of medium size will be constructed near tailing pipe junctions, while bigger sizes will be in the zone of tail service,” the project says.
