90 Million Euros for Proper Garbage Removal

“…Over 450 garbage landfills operate in Armenia. Landfill sites are not mapped, their borders are not clear and the volume and composition of the garbage dumped there is not known. Most landfill sites have no management, or management is carried out in extremely limited or insufficient quality. As a result, unfavourable condition has established for people and nature. Around 89% of total population makes use of garbage removal services: in this regard, Yerevan has the best situation – 100%, Shirak Region - 92.2%, Kotayq – 87.5% and Ararat Region – 87.4%. Aragatsotn Region as the lowest percentage – 65%. In 2015 around 8.8 billion AMD has been allocated from budget for garbage removal, sanitary cleaning and landfill site development…”, as Solid Household Waste Management Development Strategy of Armenia for 217-2036 says, which the executive approved on 8 December.

The objective of this strategy is to establish a system integrated and meeting the requirements of the EU solid household waste management in the whole territory of Armenia, which will provide technically, financially and environmentally sustainable and cost-efficient services to population and companies.

The implementation of this strategy requires 90 million Euros.
