The new landfill site in Nubarashen will be constructed on the forest areas, for the recovery of which the Armenian Government has spent 59 million AMD.

In 2011 the Armenian Government decided to allot 59 million AMD from the state reserve fund to RA Forest Recovery and Development Foundation for the reforestation, laying irrigation network and fencing 51 ha in Erebuni forestry enterprise of Yerevan Forestry Enterprise. In 2016 the Armenian Government adopted a new resolution, which says 24.42 ha of land area owned by 'ArmForest' SNCO in the administrative boundaries of Yerevan community was taken and donated to Yerevan Community for the construction of the new landfill site in Nubarashen. However, RA Forest Recovery and Development Foundation has been dissolved.

In reply to EcoLur's inquiry addressed to State Forest Committee, 'ArmForest' SNCO says, 'The mentioned area is located in the neighborhood of Nubarashen solid household landfill side. In line with the governmental resolution N891-A dated on 2 September 2016, 24.42 ha has been alienated from this area and provided to Yerevan Community for the purpose of constructing a new landfill site. It should be mentioned that so far no construction work has been performed in the area. Because of drastic lack of irrigation water and its irregular supply, the preservation of the planted area currently makes up 28-30%.'

In 2018 GIZ planned to start developing the forest management plan of Hrazdan Forestry Enterprise, which also includes the Yerevan Section. After the approval of the management plan, the borders of the forest areas managed by 'ArmForest' SNCO and located within the administrative boundaries of Yerevan City Community will be eventually specified.
