Teghout Supporters Applying to Nature Protection Ministry To Hold Inspections in Teghout Mine

“Teghout Support” civic initiative has addressed an open letter to Nature Protection Minister Aramayis Grigoryan to check the extent of Shnogh River pollution and to carry out inspections in Teghout copper and molybdenum mine. The letter says, “As we know, the governmental resolutions adopted on 30 July 2015, number 839-A, and number 43A adopted on 14 January 2016 have suspended, for unclear grounds, the environmental inspections in a number of soil management objects, including Teghout mine. The legal ground for the suspension of the inspections is RA Law “On Organization and Holding Inspections in the Republic of Armenia”. At the same time, according to Article 25 of RA Law on ‘”Environmental Supervision”, you and the governmental agency you head are obliged to initiate environmental inspections, if one of the cases prescribed in the article is available, for example, emergency and disaster states threatening the environment, complaint letters and reports filed by the citizens and organizations. Based on the provision on complaint letters and reports filed by the citizens and organizations, we would like to ask to accept it as such and to carry out inspections in Teghout mine, as well as in adjacent area and water springs and to publicize the inspection outcomes, as the mine development caused emergency and disaster states for at least Shnogh and Teghout communities.”
