Nature Protection Ministry Calling to Refrain from Illegal Fishing and Sale in Lake Sevan during Ban Period

Nature Protection Ministry called for the population living nearby Lake Sevan to refrain from illegal fishing and sale during ban period. The ministry statement says, “To ensure natural reproduction of fish from 1 to 25 December 2016 and from 6 to 20 January 2017 fishing and crawfish hunting in Lake Sevan and rivers flowing into it have been banned based on Nature Protection Minister’s order.

Nature Protection Ministry is calling for the population living nearby in Lake Sevan communities to refrain from illegal fishing and sale. In case of detecting such cases people guilty will be punished under the law. We are calling for the people not to buy illegally caught fish, a significant part of which may be from previously caught portions kept in freezers.

We are calling for the representatives of NGOs and CSOs to support fishing ban measures. In case of eye witnessing any case of illegal fishing and sale, please call the hot line of Nature Protection Ministry (phone number – 011-818-559) or RA Police.”
