"DRAGHEG Metal" LLC intends to carry out gold geoprospecting in the drainage basin of Lake Sevan 1 km away from Kut village. According to preliminary data, the area is the continuation of Sotq auriferous mineral field and separate samples contain gold from 0.1-10 gram per ton. The program intends to restore the landscape by filling the drills, restoring damaged land areas and by recultivating as well as by conserving water and air from pollution and preventing the violation of the ecosystem etc. Any kind of technical measure has not been included in this project. The planning of fertile ground storage facility is missing, which will be used to restore the damaged sections. Estimates of pollution prevention activities and any kind of technical justification are also missing. Generally it is surprising that in the condition of detailed description of mining area, which is also available in the scientific literature, the work details are introduced extremely poor and the works must be done mainly in the part of EIA. The impression is that the list of measures aimed at preventing adversary effects is copied out from the provisions of RA Law “On Environmental Impact Assessment and Expertise”. But the part, which describes how it should be implemented in reality, is missing. Actually it is planned to drill 20 holes in the village, up to 5 m depth and 1.5 m 2 (1.0 x 1.5) m basis, and in general it is planned to drill 38 holes with 50 to 100 m depth with all together 2900 volume. These are extremely dangerous small objects from the environmental view point. If they find gold in the samples out of the holes, as it's expected, so the samples will contain high concentration of toxic metals, such as arsenic etc. The presence of radioactive elements is also expected and there is no coincidence that massive searches must be conducted with radioactive elements. 3.38 hectares of agricultural and grazing land, as a result of work, will be taken out of use. We must mention that one open mining object pollutes area in 1:10 ratio. Therefore, 33 hectares of land will be taken out of the use. The company offers 8 million 425 thousand drams (18 thousand dollars) to villagers for all these.
