In 2016 170 million cum water intake will be carried out from Lake Sevan for the irrigation of Ararat Valley. The executive made this decision on 2 June: 170 million cum water is the maximum water amount set for water intake from Lake Sevan by law.
The preferable launch date has been set the second 10 days of June, 2016.
According to the resolution rationale, around 39,000 ha of land areas will be irrigated from Sevan-Hrazdan energy-irrigation system. For the purpose of land irrigation and cleaning Hrazdan riverbed around 468,5 million cum will be let out from Aghbyurak Reservoir to Yerevan Riverbed. To ensure this volume, besides 170 million cum to be taken from Lake Sevan, 78 million cum water will be taken from Azat reservoir (maximum for Azat Reservoir) and 63 million cum will be taken from Aparan Reservoir. The deficit will account for 175.5 million cum, but the resolution doesn't mention from where this water will be taken to cover the deficit.
