“Zangezour” biospheric complex has been reformed: instead of 7 branches it has 3 branches – “Shikahogh”, “Areviq” and “Zangezour”. These three branches include all the strictly preserved areas of nature of Zangezour biospheric complex.
“Shikahogh” branch includes “Shikahogh” state reserve, “Pine Park” state reserve and “Khoustoup” state reserve, “Areviq” branch includes “Areviq” national park and “Boghaqar” state reserve. It should be mentioned that “Areviq” national park used to be called “Arevik”. The new name is conditioned with Areviq region located in the area of the national park.
“Zangezour” branch includes “Zangezour” state reserve and “Sev Litch” state reserve.
The decision on structural changes of “Zangezour” biospheric complex was adopted by the executive in September 2016 substantiating it with the effective organization of complex operations.
Reminder: “Zangezour” biospheric complex was founded in 2016 uniting strictly preserved areas of nature with different regimes of conservation. The rational of this union, according to the government, is to ensure effective management of strictly preserved areas of nature. Nevertheless, after three years it is clear this form of management is not effective.
