The water volume saved in Ararat Valley for 2017 is more than the volume factually consumed as drinking water in Yerevan, as RA Nature Protection Minister Artsvik Minasyan informed: over 2932.5 l/s water has been saved, which is the result of the valve regime of 64 deep wells.
The minister outlined that the groundwater intake in Ararat Valley shall be reduced to the amount so as not to exceed 1.1 billion cum as set in RA Law 'On National Water Program.' According to the Advanced Science & Partnerships for Integrated Resource Development (ASPIRED) Project, in 2016 the groundwater intake in Ararat Valley exceeded the statutory volumve by over 45%: main water consumers were fish breedng economies.

According to the Minister, inspections will be launched in the fish farms in Ararat Valley starting from May 15. Large fish farms are supposed to install automated management systems at their own expenses. We also plan to impose a requirement to proceed to semi-closed regime, so as economies use the groundwater of Ararat Valley more efficiently, where rather serious environmental hazards have emerged due to merciless use of water resources,' the Nature Protection Minister said.

According to the certificate issued by Nature Protection Ministry, 2807 boreholes were inventoried in Ararat Valley in 2017.
