WWF Armenia, 'Gnishik Intercommunity Environmental Fund' and Khachik Community in Vayots Dzor Region signed a trilateral agreement on nature conservation on 18 April. The aim of the agreement is to promote the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable development of communities.
'It's an essential component in the establishment of environmental corridors in South Armenia, which is implemented with 'Support to Establishment of Environmental Corridors in South Caucasus' project funded by the German Government.' Due to the agreement, already 70,000 Euros have been provided to Khachik community to obtain agricultural machinery, which will promote the increase in the effectiveness of agricultural land areas, as the press release of WWF Armenia says. In the frames of the ceremony of signing the agreement WWF Armenia provided agricultural machinery and around 4000 tree plants to Khachik community.
RA Nature Protection Minister Artsvik Minasyan mentioned, 'With the launch of this program we start the practical implementation of our policy of environmental corridors, so as our fauna can freely move. The communities located in this section shall be granted an opportunity, on one hand, not to damage fauna, and on the other hand, make use of and find own sources of income as to different directions of development, including establishment of new forests.'
On the same day 'Agricultural and Vet Service Center' was opened in Yeghegnadzor Town, Vayots Dzor Region.
