30 Trees Illegally Cut Down in Shikahogh Reserve: Criminal Case Initiated

Syunik Regional Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a criminal case based on the extremely large extents of illegal tree felling by an unidentified person and professional negligence of security service employees in “Shikahogh State Reserve” SNCO and in Tsav Community area in Syunik Region. An unidentified person has cut down 30 items different tree species of different diameters in the area owned by “Shikahogh State Reserve” SNCO, in the forest area adjacent to 47th kilometre of Kapan-Meghri highway, while 7 items of different tree species of different diameters and tree branches were cut down in the area, which is owned by the community in the administrative area of Tsav Community, Syunik Region, which caused extremely large damage to the state - 5.393.466 AMD. Besides, factual data were obtained that the tree felling had been carried out by the security service of employees of “Shikahogh State Reserve” SNCO as a result of actions aimed at preventing any activity violating the regime of the reserve, improper implementation of their obligations on drawing up minutes and improper and negligent attitude to their service. A criminal case has been initiated in the Syunik Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The primary investigation is carried out by Syunik Regional Department of RA Crimnal Investigation Department.
