In 2017 20 automated, centralized, online surveillance systems will be factually installed in large fish farms in Ararat Valley, as Information and Public Relations Department of RA Nature Protection Ministry informs. This measure will be implemented based on the memorandum of understanding signed among RA Nature Protection Ministry, the UNDP and 'Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Armenia' Company.
According to Vahan Davtyan, Head of Water Resources Management Agency of Staff of RA Nature Protection Ministry, this system is planned to introduce in all the fish farms in Ararat Valley.
Reminder: Ararat Valley is facing desertification because of overexploitation of water resources by fish farms in Ararat Valley: over 300 deep wells produce 10 times as little water as they used to because of overexploitation of water resources by fish farms. Around 205 deep wells stopped giving any water.
The interdepartmental working group established on RA Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan's decision is proposing to regulate this problem in 2017-2018 by limiting water intake of current 1.6 billion cum water up to 1.1 billion cum annually, out of which 800 million cum will be directed to fish breeding.
