Ararat Region is the “leader” in the number of red-listed species appeared in the Red Book of Armenia – 143, followed by Syunik and Gegharkounik Regions – 122 and 104 species, respectively. The Red Book of Armenia included 155 invertebrate and 153 vertebrate species, as the National Action Plan on Conservation, Protection, Reproduction and Use of Biodiversity for 2016-2020 says.
According to the same source, the leader in the number of red-listed plant species is Syunik Region – 186 species, while the lowest number is in Armavir Region – 26 species. Vascular plants in the flora of Armenia are represented with around 3800 species. Currently the flora of the Republic of Armenia consists of 142 endemic species (3.8% of the entire flora). The Red Book of Armenia comprises 452 species of vascular plants (11.89% of the flora in Armenia) and 40 fungi species (1.05% of the biota of the Republic of Armenia).
