The Nature Protection Ministry has held a consultation on the project submitted by “Mego Gold” LLC, the construction of a new tailing dump of Tukhmanuk ore-dressing plant in Meliq Village (Aragatsotn Region). As the official statement of the Ministry says, “In regard with the documents submitted for the expertise, the findings of the public hearings and the statement of the Public Environmental Alliance have been received, which were addressed to the Prime Minister of Armenia, Public Council of Armenia, and Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia. In the statement the concern with two operating tailing dumps is concerned, as well as with the third one to be constructed.” The ministry has decided to submit the project for the consideration to the Ministries of Emergency States and Health. It should be noted that the Public Environmental Alliance demands to stop the operation of Mego Gold Company unless the studies of socio-economic situation in Meliq Village due to the company operation is carried out. The Public Environmental Alliance and the Union of Greens of Armenia have applied to Global Gold Corporation (shareholder of Mego Gold) CEO Van Krikorian with an open letter.
