The modernization and rehabilitation works of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant will continue during 2018.
On 14 April № 4 turbo-aggregate will be stopped, the condenser will be replaced. The planned preventative rehabilitation project will launch in June. The reactor will be stopped starting from 1 June, № 43 turbo-aggregate will be modernized. It's planned to accomplish the modernization of № 1 cooling tower in 2018, as it was decided at the 6th meeting of Armenian-Russian Joint Coordinator Committee held on 28 March in the frames of ANPP second power unit lifetime extension program.
The meeting was held presided by Deputy Minister of RA Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources Karen Ghahramanyan and Kiril Komarov, 'Rosatom' State Corporation First Deputy Director General for Corporate Development and International Business.
The parties outlined the efficiency of modernization works of the machinery hall of the station and it was mentioned that turbines, turbo-generators, unit transformers and condenser modules had already been supplied to the power plant.
It should be mentioned that the second power unit operation time of the ANPP expired still in 2016. Nevertheless, taking into consideration the risks of facing serious lack of basic capacities due to the closedown of the power plant, the state decided to extend the second power unit lifetime for 10 years. For this purpose, Armenia received a loan of US $ 270 million and a grant of US $ 30 million from Russia.
