RA Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee received the opportunity to conduct radiation monitoring online in the area near the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) and 7 km away from the ANPP. The Committee may also, in the event of a possible radiation accident, develop proposals for immediate response through the operative transmission of data and provide them immediately to the relevant authorities.
All this becomes reality due to the implementation of the European Commission's INSC (Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation) within the framework of "Development of Preparedness and Counteraction Capacities of RA Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee Staff in Case of Nuclear or Radiation Accidents" project. Within the framework of this project, an online German early alarm system is being installed in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. On June 25, the Armenian government decided to provide the committee with a radio frequency band to operate the system.
According to the government's decision, the online system will consist of 32 stationary stations for radiation monitoring, two spectrometry stations, and the possibility of forecasting of radioactive tracking consequences conditioned with the radioactive substances emitted into the environment and system of planning accident response action planning due to a possible nuclear or radiation accident. The JRODOS package has already been installed on the servers of Emergency Response Center of Committee, and now the adjustment works are being carried out.
24 monitoring stations are being set up in the area within a radius of 7 km from the ANPP, and 8 stations in the settlements near the ANPP.
