'Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine' (ZCMC) CJSC will increase Qajaran mining volumes by around 10 million tons making it 22 million tons from 10 million tons. RA Nature Protection Ministry has issued a positive opinion to the EIA report on Amending Qajaran Copper and Molybdenum Mining Project (including change of mining volumes, expansion of mining areas and prolongation of permit term).
In case of such productivity annually 21809.2 thousand tons of tails will be dumped into Artsvanik tailing dump or construction of a new tailing dump or a tail economy or expansion of operating tailing dump or tail economy areas.
Currently the capacity of Artsvanik tailing dump is 325 million m3, where 212 million m3 tails are located. The water of Geghi reservoir, Voghji and Sakqar rivers will be used for the industrial needs of the open mine. The water demand of the combine will make up 68.84 million m3. It says that maximum concentrations for harmful emissions will be within standards for nearby residential areas.
Reminder: still in 2015 Qajaran resident provided EcoLur with photos documenting high pollution of atmospheric air in Qajaran conditioning it with the development of Qajaran mine and beat an alarm signal on related children's diseases.
It should be mentioned that one of the expertise requirements posed by Nature Protection Ministry is the implementation of the requirements of RA Health Ministry laid down in its letter LA/13128-16 dated on 25.11.2016.
