On April 16 another tree planting was held in the territories adjacent to Teghout mine. As “Vallex Group” press release says, a total of 700 tree were planted in the territory of 1,5 ha. Several times the company stated they plan to plant forests in 714 ha which is almost twice as much as the territory of forests to be cut down for copper-molybdenum mine development (357 ha). Nevertheless, environmentalists are sure “Vallex Group” generosity covers its reasonable calculations and wish to hide the true scale of tree felling. “Still in 2003 when Teghout mine development was not approved, the documents said they planned to cut down 2500 ha of forests. After two years this figure was mysteriously reduced to 1970 ha, later to 1400 ha. So as the data – 375 ha – which are voiced now at official levels don’t comply with the reality,” said Hakob Sanasaryan, Greens Union Chairman, in his interview with the ArmInfo correspondent.
