200 residents in Shnogh community, Lori Region, have applied to Armenian MPs with a proposal to annul the license issued to 'Teghout' CJSC for the development of Teghout copper and molybdenum mine. The letter says:
'Dear MPs,
We would like to ask you to form an ad hoc committee to find solutions to our problems. Over the years 'Teghout' CJSC has been causing economic damage to us and been refusing to compensate them. Our land areas and buildings have been acquired without a complete compensation. The forests in Armenia are not subject to sale, nevertheless, 'Teghout' CJSC has purchases dozen hectares of forest at a price of 357.000-225.000 AMD per hectare with forged documents in different years. We are demanding to annul all these fake transactions.
Without any llicesne hundred thousands of cum sand has been mined from the Debed basin.
In stead of supplying gas to Teghout Village, 'Teghout' CJSC dismantled the gas pipelines running from Shnogh to Teghout. The buildings constructed over the years haven't been registered in the cadastre, thus, avoiding to pay a property tax. Community municipality is paid 7.2 AMD for each sq. m2 for the lease of the land areas, when another company pays 400 times more for the same area.
The black earth in the gorge of the tailing dump is left under the tails, while later 150,000 m3 black earth will be required for reclaiming.
During mining 'Teghout' CJSC received a license by concealing the real economic losses. As the mining license has been received through fraid and the mining is carried out through causing damage to the environment and population, we are proposing to annul the license issued to 'Teghout' CJSC.'
