Shekaghbyur gold-polymetallic mine field project in Lori Region, Armenia, has been sent back for amendments and supplements, while the expertise process has been stopped till the submission of the amended project, as RA Nature Protection Ministry Staff Head Hovhannes Hovhannisyan's letter addressed to Ardvi Community Residents say.
'According to the initial assessment, there are cultural and historical monuments in the area, and RA Culture Ministry has been involved in the expertise process to receive proper information or opinion.
In line with RA Law 'On Environmental Impact Assessment and Expertise', the impact of the geological investigation on all the components of the environment is observed (atmospheric air, water, soil, biodiversity, monuments of culture etc) and all the questions raised by the public are taken into consideration in the process.
A public discussion was planned to hold on 26 July in Ardvi Community to take the public opinion into consideration, which wasn't held because of the public protest and we were not able to listen to the public concerns and raised questions.
What about annulling the minutes of the public discussions, RA Nature Protection Ministry is not authorized to do it.
Based on the proposals emerged in the expertise process, as well as public concerns on the Internet, which are included in the letter, the project was sent back for amendments and supplements on 28.07.2017, while the expertise process was stopped till the submission of the amended project.'
