The residents of the communities in Martuni area, Gegharkounik Region, have addressed a letter to Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan requesting to allow and grant them an opportunity to operate mines for a certain time period before the licenses are issued. This decision has been reached at the meeting held at Martuni InfoHouse.
The problem is that RA Nature Protection and Soil Inspection Body has suspended the development sand pits by 'Shoghaga', 'Suzi-Hrachya' and 'Qaloyan' LLC, as the permits issued to these companies have expired.
'While the mines stand idle, it caused social tension for the locals,' said Anahit Gevorgyan, President of 'Martuni Women's Community Council' NGO.
'We, the participants of the discussion on the development of sand pits in Martuni area held on 19.05.2018, are asking for your permission to allow and grant us an opportunity to develop mine till the permits are issued taking into consideration the socio-economic situation in the area, climatic conditions in the area and the seasonal nature of construction works,' says the letter addressed to the Armenian PM, which has been disseminated by 'Martuni InfoHouse'.
