The Armenian Government granted another privilege to Lydian Armenia CJSC, which is going to develop Amulsar gold mine exempting the company from import duty for the import of goods costing 2 billion 489 million AMD. Reminder: in April 2017 the Armenian Government granted Lydian Armenia CJSC, a privilege not to pay VAT for the imported goods for three years. Amulsar mine is located in the borderline of Vayots Dzor and Syunik Regions, and will be developed in an opencast manner and the gold will be leached with cyanide. Amulsar mining project bears huge risks for the health of project-affected community residents and for agricultural activities, Jermuk resort town, Arpa and Vorotan drainage basin, Kechout and Spandaryan reservoirs and Lake Sevan. Currently the Administrative Court of Armenia is trying the claim on annulling the permitting documents of Amulsar gold mine. The claim has been submitted by 12 residents of project-affected Gndevaz community and 'EcoRight' and 'EcoDar' NGOs.
