On 10 November the Aldermen’s Council in Jermuk changed the category of 5 land areas on Gndevaz community with total space of 2.11185 to the category of industrial and soil management: “Lydian Armenia” Company acquired these land areas from Gndevaz community and community residents for the implementation of Amulsar gold mining project.

A heap leaching facility shall be constructed in Gndevaz community included in Jermuk town, where gold shall be extracted through cyanide. The HLF will occupy an area of 117.93 ha, where there were apricot orchards and pastures. To avoid cyanide poisoning risks Amulsar project EIA says (page 488).

“Soil contamination with cyanide is impossible: nevertheless, if the operation of dams, drainage canals and geomembrane pads breaks down or the polluted dust will be emitted from HLF and residue on land surface, the impact in the project affected areas will be negative.”

Gndevaz is considered to the nearest located project-affected community – the HLF is located only in a distance of 1 kilometer.
