GeoProMining Stops Its Operation in Sotq Mine and Ararat Gold Extraction Plant: Announcement

'GeoProMining' Company has disseminated a statement, which says it stops its operation in Sotq mine and Ararat gold extraction plant. The statement particularly says: ' A group of strangers, who don't have any relation to the assets and employees of  'GeoProMining' Company, have blocked all the roads leading to the mine for already several days and have paralyzed the operation of the mine and Sotq-Ararat railway. The operation of Ararat Gold Extraction Plant has stopped today.

Particularly, a group of people has blocked all the roads leading to the mine and the access of the machinery to the fuel station explaining their actions with political and nationalistic slogans on 17-18 May, as well as since 22 May.

They have also blocked the Sotq-Ararat railway, which transfers ore from Sotq mine to Ararat plant on a daily basis. The cessation of ore mining has also lead to the Sotq-Ararat railway operated by 'Southern Caucasus Railway' CJSC stand idle. Nevertheless, the real aim of the protesters is to have the permission of the administration of 'GeoProMining' Company to access the mine area for illegal gold mining.

'GeoProMining' Company is deeply concerned about the physical safety of its employees because of the threats voice and is calling the Armenian Government and force bodies to protect the state and the interests of the foreign investors, which implement social programs on the sites.
