Armenian Environmental Front (AEF) Civic Initiative
We learned from the Facebook post by the Acopian Center for the Environment of the American University of Armenia that the university in partnership with Lydain offshore mining company is organizing the public speech of a foreign mining company employees, who turns out to be the ex-partner of Deputy Chairman of Lydian's Sustainable Development Department.
The topic of this event doesn't have any relation with either natural or social sciences, even if the AUA attempts to substantiate its action with a cunning argument 'to promote scientific discussions around mining'. This event dedicated to public relations, misleading communities and 'corporate responsibility' serves only one goal of increasing Lydian Company's dubious reputation through the American University of Armenia, camouflaging wide-scale public discussions on scientific criticism of the impacts on the environment (particularly water resources) in case of Amulsar mining.
We are heavily criticizing the cooperation of the American University of Armenia with any mining company or as closely-related scientific and research organization with mining companies. We are calling for the students of the American University of Armenia and especially the students of the Acopian Center for the Environment to have an active participation in the activities and decision-making of the university and to discuss the decrease in the university rating.
