Armenian Environmental Front Civic Initiative
On October 1, Anna Shahnazaryan, a member of the Armenian Environmental Front Civil Initiative presented a group of MEPs in Brussels the issue of Amulsar, in particular, the program confirmation by the former government and attempts to secure its implementation by the current government, in contrast to the will of the local population and the wider population of Armenia. and, despite a wide range of human rights violations, including participation in decision-making on the natural environment, right to live in a healthy and prosperous environment, right to access clean water, and right to deal with economic activity. The latest developments related to the International Study of EIA documents presented by Lydian were also presented, highlighting the key findings of the ELARD-TRS report.
The attention of the European Parliament has been drawn to the fact that the European Union Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the state-owned development bank of the European Union member states, is among the major investors of such a highly-opposed project and therefore shares responsibility for such support to the project approved with the violation of Armenian legislation.
The issue of investment arbitration was also presented, particularly in the case of Amulsar as a threat to blackmail the new government formed through democratic waves.
